I recollect when I was about 11 years old earlier in my former neighborhood. I was playing out side and I heard the rumble of a Harley Davidson coming up the boulevard. The woman was not very big at all, and as she started drive away from the stop sigh she dumped the motorbike. It was more like she dumped the clutch; lost her footing and she dropped the motorcycle. Well imagine, never seeing a motorbike riding women before and then seeing her drop the bike. It was quite the sight.

I have to acknowledge, she had a set. Swear words came flying out of her mouth and I believe at one time she even kicked the fallen motorbike. I think she was quite mortified. She didn’t miss a beat though, she got down to it and she picked that Harley up and jumped right back on it an off she went.

Let’s move ahead in time about forty years. Though it took nearly four decades, women have come to the realization that motorcycling is not just for men. Women have come to terms with their doubts and the label that the bitch rides in back. More and more you can look at any major traffic circle and set eyes on women riders.

Its not just small girly girl 250 cc motorbikes these women are riding, they are riding full-size grown-up girl motorbikes, motorbikes like Harley Davidson Sportsters, Softails and full dressers. They can also beseen riding Metric motorcycles like 1500 cc Kawasaki’s, Yamaha’s and Hondas. Still some brave few; ride super fast Sports motorcycles officially celebrated as crotch rockets.

Just go to any motorbike rally and have a fast glance about. I’ll bet, on any specified day about 30% of the riders there will be women riding their own motorcycle.

It isn’t just that women motorcycle riders have had an awakening, a emergence of sorts. It’s that they are organizing as well. It was accustomed to be that the motorcycle clubs were a male subjugated meeting. Motorcycle organizations were made up of men that drove the bike and their biker mamas that rode on the back. Well all that has changed now that women have started to get off the back and ride their individual motorbikes.

Women’s motorcycle organizations: groups and Associations are bouncing up every where. Although, I treasured the day’s that I had my woman on the back and she had her arms and legs firmly wrapped around me, I am loving it just as much riding solo with my Harley girl riding by my side.
