Backyard farmers by necessity: self-sufficient & debt-free

13

When Myrna and Earl Fincher married 53 years ago they started farming their yard “out of necessity”. Today, the Finchers make a living selling their organic produce to restaurants and at the local farmers’ market twice a week for much of the year. They had no experience as farmers, but learned by trial and error.

Thanx for continuing to restore my faith in human life, btw one way to ” code enforcement” is to pour? cement pad and build structure on frame set(not attached) to cement, or at least not obviously, then it is a portable structure…i.e. potentially movable with winch and truck, another advantage is that the structure is not permamnent so not taxable, same concept as tiny home’s on wheels…..

Today in much of the country these people would be subject to harassment and at least partial condemnation by code enforcement, even in rural lands. I live 25 minutes from the nearest store of any kind on a dead end dirt road with 20 acres and an agricultural zoning. No way you could do this w/o being ordered to tear all? those structures out. If something you wish to do doesn’t make your property taxes go up and you neighbors house worth more you can not do it.

Coming from a typical? modern wasteful family this is a huge inspiration. I want and NEED natural, homegrown food…not precooked tv “dinners”. I hope society weeds out this overly convienient lazy lifestyle and goes back to the good old days I wish I lived in.
